1289. To strengthen the borders of the Kingdom of France, King Philip the Fair decided to have a new castle built. For the time being, Caylus is but a humble village, but soon, workers and craftsmen will be flocking by the cartload, attracted by the great prospects. Around the building site, a city is slowly rising up.
--Oct2005-- (after one play) Interesting game. A bit slower than I'd expected, though could speed up with some experience. Very interesting dynamics, and quite a lot of fun. I'm on the fence a bit as to the rating: looks like a high 8 to me right now, but has the potential to become a 9 if I could reliably finish a game in less than two hours.

Hard to explain to people, so I prefer to play with people who have played before or who have patience to listen through a relatively lengthy ruleset. Love the game, though!
Very simple, extremely fun. Seemed to work well as a 2 player - and not many games offering that depth of tactic and easy of play do work well with as few players.
