Prior Phillip of Kingsbridge has a glorious vision: to build the largest, most beautiful cathedral in England. To accomplish the task, Phillip recruits the most renowned builders in the country. However, the fate of the Cathedral is constantly threatened by all manner of catastrophes and oppositions.
The Pillars of the Earth is based on Ken Follett's best-selling novel. Players join together to help build Kingsbridge Cathedral. Using your workmen and resources, you must wisely deploy assets to overcome unexpected difficulties and shortages to prove yourself the greatest builder of them all!
Will your efforts be recognized when the Great Cathedral at Kingsbridge is complete?
A beautiful game that is thematically rich for a Euro. Lots of competition for the good stuff in a 4-player game, and a tasteful amount of randomness. The theme is great for fans of Follett's book.
If we didn't already have a couple of worker placement games, we might buy this. It is balanced. It is enjoyable. The board is beautiful. And I found it very easy to pick up, even though there are a lot of steps that you take each turn.
A resource optimization and worker placement game that is very accessible and a lot of fun. Initially, I had problems with the amount of randomness in the game, but I like it more and more as I gain more experience with the game. There are lots of different strategies to try, and several are very viable paths to victory. Very entertaining!
