Default So- What Miniature Games are people on THIS site interested in?

    Hey y'all-
I play a bunch of board games, but at heart I'm a miniature wargamer. So, to start off this folder, I thought that I would start a discussion on what miniatures games people are playing these days!

In my neck of the woods (Central Texas, Austin to be specific), we're fortunate to have a thriving historical community- Lone Star Historical Miniatures (LSHM). My FLGS in Austin is the heart of LSHM in Austin, where games like Flames of War (WWII), Field of Glory (Ancients), Field of Glory Renaissance, Check yer 6 (WWII and Jet Age dogfighting), General Quarters III (WWI and WWII naval), Fire and Fury Regimental Scale (Civil War), Blitzkrieg Commander (WWII) and Cold War Commander (Cold War) and a host of other games are being played.

We also have a big community of people who play science fiction and fantasy. Some other games that y'all might not have heard of that have fans here in Texas include Heavy Gear (The BETTER game of Giant Robots), Starmada (Best Science Fiction game of spaceships EVER), Future War Commander (both the small scale and the skirmish game), and even a pretty big Car Wars community!

So what is being played in YOUR neck of the woods???

    Enquiring minds NEED to know!

I know that I'M looking for a good Science Fiction skirmish level game that has a point system to build up 'Do it Yerself' forces, instead of having to use someone else's premade factions. I have tons of 28mm models from many different companies, and really don't want to play some clone of 40K with the serial numbers filed off. If I wanted to do that, I'd play 40K, thankyouverymuchthereisthedoorseeyouatdakkadakk.co mbye!

I mostly play battletech - at least, I consider that a miniature game. Though you CAN play without miniatures, I suppose.... I wouldn't hehe.

Have you checked out Malifaux? It's a skirmish level mini's game that uses a card management system instead of dice. The theme is described as victorian/horror/steampunk/western.

There are 5 factions, each with box sets you can buy to get started, but there is a bit of customization as there are alot of extra models available. Check them out at www.wyrd-games.net

I've just started getting into Warmachine, but I mean I just started. Not even any fully assembled minis yet.

I dabble in many. Rezolution looks kind of interesting. It has a cool cyberpunk vibe. There are definately premade factions though. The minis games I play most are the super light Heorclix and heroscape. I'm not much of a tactician- I just like to blow things up.

I've heard a lot about Malifaux, and want to give it a shot. I bought a couple of figures to paint up for it, but thats just because I'm huge fan of Steampunk!!!

I mostly play the OOP stuff, especially Warzone 1st Edition. The other stuff I dabble in is Gangs of Mega City One, AT-43, and WH40k ( but only to a lessening degree, now). I have Heroscape, buit I was not too particulary impressed by the game itself. High expectations and all that. Still, the terrain is great and I use the figures to proxy for figures I do not have in Warzone, and they fit right in.

I'm a Scaper as well. I like my games to be quick-playing and family-friendly, with plenty of action, choices, and tactics. Heroscape fills that bill extraordinarily well.

Which has been canceled by yet another stellar move from the Hasbro execs in WOTC. It was a great gateway game for kids and now there is none for mini gaming. My guess is hasbro isn't seeing the $ now that their mass-production product isn't in big box stores anymore. Takes a geneous to figure out they could just raise the price and still sell it in hobby shops.
